We always focus on the bold and beautiful features of our homes, and tend to ignore the essentials. This article is going to shed some light on those features that are so often overlooked, but are incredibly essential to your day to day living. There are many ways of heating your home, but which is the best for you? Storage Heaters, Gas boilers, Immersion Heater. We’re going to break down each solution and tell you the benefits of each, so you don’t have to.
Immersion Heaters
Immersion heaters are the standard and most ubiquitous among Irish homes. Most houses these days are still fitted with an immersion heater. In a way, these are the cheapest because you’ll probably already have one and know the benefits of an immersion heater. I’ll go into detail anyways.
Immersion heaters have thermostatic control. What does that mean? You ask. Thermostatic control is simply that you can set the immersion heater to turn off once it reaches a certain temperature. This can be cost-effective as it will only run until it reaches that temperature and you won’t accidentally spend all your money forgetting to turn it off.
Immersion heaters are also not connected to your boiler, so If you end up with a broken immersion, you’ll still have access to hot water while you get someone out to get it fixed.
They’re also relatively cheap to repair and check-ups, only €170 for a full repair.
Storage Heaters
Storage heaters aren’t all that common. However, they are really cost effective. Storage heaters are a collection of stand-alone heaters that you can purchase all together or one at a time, depending on your budget. The fact that they’re stand-alone units ensures that if one of them fails, you’ll still be able to heat your home with the others.
The main use of a storage heater would be for shopping centres, stores and offices. Storage heaters collect energy at late hours when electricity is at a cheap rate, and then releases that energy as heat throughout the day. This makes them really cost-effective solutions for business premises, not so much for home heating however.
Gas Boilers
These are the most expensive of all three. They have a bigger installation cost, a brand new gas boiler or a gas boiler upgrade will cost you €1800 - €2200. However, you get what you pay for with a gas boiler.
System boilers are guaranteed to last for years with minimal maintenance cost.
Gas boilers are also the most efficient, They cost you way less in the long run in comparison to your standard immersion heater. They’re cost-effective heating regardless of time of day, They just work.
We highly recommend these boilers to all home owners who need a reliable and cost-effective home heating solution.
You pay a large cost up front, but for a system that will last you forever and will pay for itself in comparison to the running cost and regular maintenance of an immersion heater, it’s the cheapest system over time.
